Key points
- End-to-end encryption is in final testing.
- The intended scope is one-to-one chats and Private Docks.
- Messages are protected in transit and at rest today.
Correction. An earlier version of this post, published on 2 July 2026, said that end-to-end encryption had been released to everyone. That was not correct. It is still in final testing, and we have updated this post.
End-to-end encryption for 1:1 chats and Private Docks is built and in final testing. We are taking the time to test it carefully before we switch it on, because a mistake here would mean people losing access to their own messages.
What it will do
With end-to-end encryption, a message is locked on your device and can only be unlocked on the device of the person you send it to. Nobody in between, including Intridium, will be able to read it. You will be able to check a safety number with a friend to confirm you are talking to the right person, and a recovery phrase will help you restore your messages on a new phone.
How your messages are protected today
Until end-to-end encryption is switched on, every message is encrypted while it travels and while it is stored on our servers. Only friends can message you, and you can see and sign out every device on your account. We will announce it here when end-to-end encryption launches.
